Memories of bygone times – DomAquarée lit up
From 11 to 20 October, as part of the Festival of Lights, the DomAquarée CityQuartier was presenting a superlative large-screen projection telling the history of the location. Thus the legendary Palasthotel and the traditional Hotel De Saxe were built once again on the huge facade of the festival building complex opened in 2004. Many Berliners will remember the façade of the Palasthotel and the fact that it was exclusively reserved for foreign tourists. Hotel De Saxe, on the other hand, which opened at the end of the 18th century, will not be remembered by any Berliners because it was demolished at the end of the 19th century because it was in the way of the construction of today’s Liebknecht Bridge. Today, the CityQuartier houses not only hotel, office and residential space, but also a rich selection of shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. Especially the Hotel Radisson Blu, the AquaDom, the Sea Life Center Berlin and the GDR Museum are well known beyond the borders of the city.
