Staatsoper Unter den Linden

On the occasion of the reopening of the State Opera Unter den Linden, there will be a cooperation with the Festival of Lights for the very first time. Thereby, the façade of the State Opera will be illuminated by an elaborately animated 3D-videoprojection, which leads within 5 minutes throughout the rich, 275 years old history of the house, illustrating the transformation of the Opera from 1742 until today in spectacular images. The considerable media- and light artist, Andreas Hauslaib, could be gained with his team for the realization. The bow stretches from the idea of King Friedrich II., to establish an Opera house at the new forum Fridericianum, over the exemplary historical milestones such as the modifications in the 19th and early 20th centenary, until the present day. Thereby, destructions of the building by fire and war impact will be depicted, as well as reconstructions and modernisations, which will find their last chapter in the reopening. Companions of this historical journey are iconic Opera figures, such as the queen of the night from “Zauberflöte” or Count Almaviva from the legendary State Opera “Barbiere”, which are brought to life on the façade.

For the first time, the projection will be presented during the pre-program of the Festival of Lights on 30thSeptember at 7 pm after the “State Opera for everybody” concert and furthermore on 3rd October following to the opening premiere “Zum Augenblicke sagen: Verweile doch!” with Robert Schumanns “scenes from Goethes Faus”.
