Europe’s Capital of Culture illuminated<\/div><\/div>\n

Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria – also known as “The City of the Seven Hills” – has been chosen as the European Capital of Culture 2019, alongside Matera in Italy. This is an honor that has been awarded by the European Union every year since 1985 to one, or since 2004 to at least two cities per year. The aim, with the help of appropriate funding, is to bring cultural and historical aspects of a city or region more into the public eye and make them accessible to visitors. The title of “Capital of Culture” is awarded for one year, during which a variety of cultural events are then held and numerous guests are welcomed.<\/p>\n
