Festival of Lights Award 2024
The Festival of Lights continued its tradition of honouring the best video artists with the Festival of Lights Award 2024. 16 international artists presented their impressive visions of freedom on Berlin’s most beautiful landmarks.
To mark the anniversary, visitors decided on the audience award.
Congratulations to Magic Innovations. Their show ‘United in Light’ at the Brandenburg Gate won the hearts of the audience and the public vote.

TV Tower Berlin
Six extraordinary artist teams from six countries have transformed the Berlin TV Tower into a glowing canvas under the motto “Share your Light – Express yourself.”
Captain Energy (Netherlands) presents THE MERMAID: The tower starts as a cold monument and transforms into a magical underwater world, where a mermaid radiates the light of freedom. Jérémy Oury (France/Mexico) with POV: The tower becomes an interactive canvas, where the creative process of an artist unfolds. Every movement of the cursor reveals a new dimension of the tower. Kurbas Production (Ukraine) reflects on the pursuit of freedom in INVICTUS. Visual ornaments tell stories of individuality and the unyielding spirit of ancestors. MOMAP Studio (Spain) presents THE FREEDOM OF LIFE, showing a vibrant connection between art and nature. Glowing snakes and birds symbolize the inseparable bond between freedom and the forces of nature. Pani Pawlosky (Germany) with REBEL BERLIN: A powerful visual work capturing the rebellious spirit of Berlin through surreal elements and techno beats. studio eigengrau (Germany) presents MORE FREEDOM: A quiet yet powerful reflection on the fragility of freedom, reminding us to rediscover and cherish it daily.
Hotel de Rome
Outstanding artists showcase their visions of freedom on the facades of Hotel de Rome under the theme “Freedom of Thoughts,” creating an inspiring space for creativity.
Ari Dykier celebrates freedom in THE SKY, exploring the possibilities it brings. Using surreal elements, he tells the story of people fulfilling their dreams alongside android companions. Inspired by Wim Wenders’ “Wings of Desire,” the show illustrates how freedom helps us soar. Hermes Mangialardo invites the audience to explore the vast landscapes of the human mind with LUMINOUS MINDSCAPES. Abstract thoughts and emotions blend in a stunning visual display that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. The Indonesian artist team The Fox, The Folks presents RADIANT, a show reminiscent of a video game. Darkness is pierced by a beam of light, transporting viewers into vibrant, colorful worlds.
Brandenburger Tor
On the Brandenburg Gate, five artist teams from four countries present impressive 3D video mapping shows under the theme “United We Shine.”
SKGPLUS interprets the theme through the circle, symbolizing harmony. Overlapping, colorful circles represent a diverse but united society. Vanessa Cardui projects giant paper insects onto the Brandenburg Gate, raising awareness about the decline in insect populations. Her work focuses on the environment, sustainability, and societal change. Magic Innovations presents a magical show where sunflowers and golden trees grow along the columns of the Gate, symbolizing the limitless energy of collaboration. VAMOS Animation celebrates dance in THE NATURAL ORDER, portraying it as a spontaneous expression of freedom and cultural identity, with colorful dancing figures showing the power of movement. MP-STUDIO revisits iconic highlights from 20 years of the Festival of Lights, bringing them back to the Brandenburg Gate for a new dazzling display.
Schloss Charlottenburg
Charlottenburg Palace becomes the stunning backdrop for 3D video art at the Festival of Lights under the theme “Dreams of Tomorrow.”
Illuminos presents WITHOUT A CAGE, where mystical bird figures rise in waves of blue and violet, with golden sparks vying for the light. Segal AV takes the audience on a transformative journey in WAVES OF FREEDOM, from monochrome images to vibrant colors and African masks representing cultural unity. The piece ends with an ascent into the universe, heralding a new era. RE:SORB illuminates the palace in opulent gold, merging historic architecture with futuristic light art, blurring the line between reality and fantasy.
