Handwerkskammer Berlin

A luminous journey through 125 years of Berlin craftsmanship

For 125 years, the Berlin Chamber of Crafts has stood as a strong partner and driving force alongside its members. This anniversary will also be highlighted at this year’s Festival of Lights: from October 8 to 15, the Chamber’s building will be illuminated in an impressive light show that takes us on a journey through 125 years of Berlin’s craftsmanship history.

This story is shaped by significant milestones and the people who have continuously shaped and developed the craft sector in the capital — showcasing how vibrant, diverse, and future-ready craftsmanship is today.

As a public corporation, the Berlin Chamber of Crafts is the first point of contact for more than 29,500 skilled crafts businesses in Berlin. The core tasks of the Chamber of Crafts include aspects of the sovereign self-administration of the skilled crafts sector – such as training, examinations and maintaining the register of skilled crafts and apprentices – as well as vocational training courses, the promotion of young talent and a wide range of advisory services for business owners, for example on topics such as handing over businesses to future generations.
