Thierry Noir
Germany
Thierry Noir is a pioneering street artist, best known for his colorful and iconic murals on the Berlin Wall. Born in Lyon, France, Noir moved to Berlin in the early 1980s, where he began painting the Wall as a spontaneous act of protest and artistic expression. His simple, bold, and vibrant characters, with thick black outlines and bright colors, became symbols of hope, freedom, and resistance during the Cold War. Noir’s art, often regarded as the first to decorate the Berlin Wall, has been exhibited worldwide in galleries, museums, and public spaces, establishing him as a key figure in the urban art movement. His works continue to inspire, with their unmistakable style and strong political messages about unity and freedom.
Today, Thierry Noir’s legacy remains deeply intertwined with Berlin’s history, and his work has been celebrated in festivals like the Berlin Festival of Lights, where his iconic figures bring walls to life with color and light.
