May 1, 2018 marked the 900th anniversary of Zwickau’s first documentary mention, which marked the start of a very special week of celebrations. The FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS as a central element of the celebrations gifted the city with a very extraordinary experience.

With light installations, video projections and video mappings, around 20 buildings were transformed into luminous history from 8 p.m. to midnight. Thus, the city’s history came to life in public space in a completely new way and was interpreted creatively! The residents and guests were enthusiastic and will keep this anniversary in vivid memory for a long time. Episodes from nine centuries, famous personalities or simply visual arrangements by light created an enchanting atmosphere, which invited to an unforgettable journey through time.

From May 1 to 5, 2018, visitors had the opportunity to experience Zwickau in a whole new light. Guided tours of the city, small readings and concerts complemented Zwickau’s radiant week of festivities.
