LUNAR Festival of Lights Sofia

2024

The third edition of LUNAR Festival of Lights will take place in Sofia between 9th and 12th May 2024.

The art event will transform the central part of the city into a huge and glowing open-air gallery, where Bulgarian and foreign artists will present exciting 3D projection mapping shows and light installations. Organiser and main artistic team behind the event is the Bulgarian visual effects studio MP-STUDIO, in partnership with one of the world’s most renowned light festivals Festival of Lights International. The event will be organised with the institutional support of the European Parliament in Bulgaria, the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, Sofia Municipality and with the financial support of the National Culture Fund’s Creation Programme.

Access to all artworks will be free of charge.

The second edition of the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS in Sofia was celebrating the light and beauty of the night from May 11-14, 2023.

Already for the second time in the Bulgarian capital, thirteen of the city’s most iconic buildings, squares and parks were transformed with the art of light.

Sofia shone more colourful and luminous than ever before.

The pilot edition of the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS in Sofia celebrates the light and beauty of the night.

For the first time in the Bulgarian capital, thirteen of the city’s most iconic buildings, squares and parks were transformed with the art of light.

Sofia shone more colourful and luminous than ever before.

Video and static mappings, light installations and interactive studios inspired and entertained the audience. The talented artists come from Australia, Bulgaria, India, France, Spain and Sweden. Each of the four evenings was unique and unforgettable.

The festival gave young artists the opportunity to participate in a competition. The task was to create a light artwork for the biggest facade of the festival, the National Palace of Culture. In addition, this first edition of the festival in Bulgaria contributed to the professional development of young talents in the field of high-tech audiovisual art through workshops. Bulgarian and international experts shared their knowledge on the creation of 3D mapping, animations, music composition through AI, the programming of customized software systems for the interaction between artists, environment and audience, as well as on night photography

Access to the LUNAR Festival of Lights artworks and participation in the workshops was free of charge.

The event was organized with the support of the European Parliament in Bulgaria, the European Commission for Bulgaria and the Sofia City Council. The patron of LUNAR was the Chairman of the City Council, Georgi Georgiev. Producer was MP Studio.
