The 20th festival under the sign of freedom
In 2024, we are celebrating our 20th birthday and freedom – because what better way to celebrate 35 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall?
That’s why the 20th Festival of Lights was all about it. Freedom in Berlin, in Europe and in many countries around the world. But also the freedom that we wish for all the people who still have to dream of it.
With the anniversary edition of the Festival of Lights, we’re telling big and small stories about the freedom that makes Berlin a vibrant metropolis of creativity, confidence and joie de vivre with spectacular, breathtaking light art. On 10 evenings, the capital’s most famous and popular buildings and squares shone in a special light.

Millions of bright faces. Millions of shining eyes. This is what the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS stands for every autumn since 2005. When Berlin becomes the big glowing stage and the monuments, buildings and squares become the stars. When all of Berlin lights up! This is when we tell stories, draw attention to the hidden, present cultures, arts and innovative technology, and convey messages and current issues. Magic Moments in Berlin!
This is exactly what the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS represents with its unique light art full of diversity, innovation and luminosity. Created by the festival team, in collaboration with renowned artists from many countries.
